Zipped phone cases

I have a good stock of phone cases now, but was recently asked if I had any with fastenings.  This got me thinking. Initially I made all of my phone cases with an elastic/button fastening, but then changed to leaving them open which seemed to be a preference for many people.  I am now starting to build up some with fastenings again in a variety of sizes.  I made these pocked phone cases with zips after finding a supply of cheap, very short zips and am quite pleased with them - I think I will make some of my embroidered phone cases with zips as well, at some point.  It will be interesting to see which version people prefer.

Bibs

This is the second batch of bibs I have completed.  They are lines with towelling, or plastic, or microfibre - depending on what came to hand.  It is fun playing around with the embroidery patterns I have found, and there are many tempting slogans I could use!

Helpers!

As you can imagine, there are some very time consuming parts to the process of making bags from old jeans.  One of these is the process of cutting up the jeans.  I prefer to separate jeans by simply cutting up each leg seam and through the waist band - I find this the most economical way of using the material.  I do change this for combat style jeans and those with interesting embroidery or other features, but this is the "normal" way,  It is, however, very hard on the hands.  I am fortunate to have three groups of people who help me with this.  One is a group of three young ladies from the school where I teach who have offered to help as part of their Year 8 Challenge.  Another is a variety of people from Church who have come along to a Saturday "Cutting Party", and the third is the Church youth group, Legends.  Last week I took an enormous tub, overflowing with pairs of jeans.  I sat and cut (while most of the boys watched the football match which was on!) and most of the girls present, and some of the boys, helped me with the job.  I went home with this:

Thank you Legends - and other helpers - it makes my sewing so much easier to have this help!

Drawstring wash bags

This one is another old favourite, and another way of using up those pockets.  These vary in size - I had to sort through the pockets to find four of the same size.  I had a long length of stretch gingham check material which I was given but was struggling to use for larger bags - it was perfect for this.  You can find a tutorial for this bag very early in my blog - just use the tutorial label on the cloud at the bottom of the page.

More pouches

Here are some more of the zipped pouches from Amy Butler's pattern.  I can now make some of these up into sets, which I hope may appeal for presents.  I love these - I can see so many uses for them.

Pocket bag

I have an abundance of pockets at the moment, and have been using as many as possible!  They are very versatile.  Cut to 8" squares I can make bags with four patches on each side.  These can then be further adapted by changing trims and adding gussets.  This is the basic bag - it was one of the first bags I designed from denim and remains a favourite.  Following Saturday's course I have plans to do a new version which incorporates a zip!

Baby bandanas

We have a lot of new babies at Church and I am loving the opportunities I get for cuddles with many of them.  Last weekend one of them was sporting a wonderful "dribble cloth".  Cheekily I asked if I could take a photo - not of the baby but of the cloth!  I have now made several of these; they are really quite to make and look very cute.  I'm hoping to sell lots!
