Embroidered purses

The stock has run down, so I made another batch.  People seem to enjoy hunting through these to find the most appropriate quote for them - and I enjoy making them.  They are quick to do and always seem to turn out well.

This set of slogans consist of:
Born to shop
Peace
Sow kindness, reap love.
 Shop till you drop
Ballet Princess.

Mini keyring purses

I found this design here and have had it stored on my pinterest pages for some time!  I finally got time to make (or adapt and make!) it.  A lovely little design to make, and a great addition to my purse range I think.

Now that's what I call a restock!

I started making these little unlined coin purses for two main reasons - to use a part of the jeans which seemed too good to waste, and to provide a very cheap purchase, particularly aimed at children.  They have proved very popular and are almost symbolic of my Sewing for Utange project - something unusual which everyone can afford.  The purchase of one of these purses feeds a child for a week.
I sell a lot of them, so I seem to be constantly making them.  I also use a lot of jeans, so always seem to have a stock of front pockets to use up!  The combination of these factors has led to this:

As the title says, that's what I call a restock!
I like this little one in particular.  The darts make it fun - it came from a little girl's denim skirt.

Mini keyring purse tutorial

This is another project that grew out of what I had in the house!  My sewing room was festooned with scraps of denim, too big to throw away but too small for existing projects.  While hunting through my zips box (actually more of a crate!) to find zips for a bag project I am planning, I came across about 20 tiny zips, no more than 3" long. And of course I had some split rings left over from recent key ring projects.  So I started thinking.
I came up with this:
It is hard to get an idea of the scale, but the purse is no more than 2" square.  I think this would be really useful for children who need to take bus fare to school - with a clip you could easily attach it to a belt loop - or to keep the car park change or trolley coin in.

Here is how I made them:
I cut a strip of fabric the width of the zip and twice as long as the zip.
I sewed the zip to one short edge of the fabric:
and then to the other edge:
Opening the zip, I put the loop of ribbon, with the split ring attached, inside the purse, and sewed across the short edge catching the ribbon in the seam.  I turned and sewed back the same way for strength.
I then sewed across the other short edge.
After clipping the corners (as shown above - it makes the corners of the finished back much neater) I turned the purse the right way in.
A simple, quick project; I now have a stack of these ready to add to stock.

Pocket purses

This ever popular item needed restocking again.  I enjoy making these - they are so easy to make differently each time, and so fast to make.  Plus the appeal of knowing that each purse, when sold, raises enough to feed a child in Kenya for a week, makes these very rewarding.
