Owl purses

I was told at a recent sale that owls are very "in" at the moment.  I can certainly see that I sell plenty of owl themed items.  This month I have restocked my owl coin purses to keep up with the trend.

You can find a tutorial for these purses here if you would like one for yourself.  You are welcome to make them to sell but if you do, please consider making a donation to The Sure Foundation (paypal link on the side bar).

Boxy purses - with tutorial

My purses needed restocking in time for Christmas, and I felt like playing around with ideas and patterns a bit.  I saw a tiny boxy purse attached to a keyring and that inspired these:
These started as an 8.5" x 6" rectangle.  I inserted the zip and then sewed the sides so that the zip was centrally placed - like this:
Then I cut the corners out - about a 1" square - in each corner, like this:

I pinched the corners and sewed them together to make the box.

They are not yet quite the size I want, but they look pretty cure.  Next set may well be smaller and more cube than cuboid - possibly attached to a keyring.

Penguin purses

Another novelty coin purse design - I have been catching up on these while the embroidery machine is out of action.  These are simple to make. They have a basic construction of three 4" squares each of denim and lining.  I curve the base of one of the squares to make the head / flap.  Before starting construction I applique eyes and the white body and add the velcro for the fastening.
I then sew round the sides and curved edge of the flap, sewing it to the lining. I clip the edges, turn it the right way out and topstitch.
I then sew together the body part with velcro and one lining along the top edge.  sandwiching the head between the other body pieces (same fabric types facing). Open these out and put the two pieces together, same fabrics matched.  Sew round the resulting piece, leaving the bottom edge of the lining open for turning.
Turn right way in and sew up the lining before pushing the lining inside the main body.
There's a tutorial with pictures for the monkey purse (made in the same way) here if these instructions don't make sense to you!

Monster coin purses

This is a variation on a previous design. You can find a tutorial for this style of coin purse here if you want to make one for yourself. I'm still stocking up on monster related items in preparation for a "Wild Things" series of sales in December, so I guess I need to make sure I don't sell all of these before then!

Puppy purses again

These have sold well in the past and a new stock was needed.  The ears make it a little fiddly, but worth it.  The last batch I made were from some beige corduroy trousers; this batch came from some grey jeans.  I'm casting my eyes over my jeans stock now to see what other colours can be used.
