Kindle case

I've been meaning to make one (or several!) of these since getting mine at Christmas.  Before I start with the tutorial, I just want to stress that there are several different makes of Kindle and they all seem to be differnt sizes - so measure your Kindle accordingly!  Mine is the cheapest model (of course!) and the case fits it well.

Here goes then.  You will need:
Two jean pockets cut to 5 1/2" x 7 1/2".
Two pieces of cardboard cut 1/2" smaller than the lining and cover pieces.
Two pieces of lining cut to the same size.
Two pieces of lining 3"x4"
Four pieces of elastic 4" long.
A small square of velcro
Mark 2" in from each corner of one piece of lining.  Pin your elastic diagonally between corners using these points. On this version I put the elastic inside the 2" mark and it is a little too close to the edge.  On any future cases I will put it outside the marks. Sew across the ends as close to the edge of the fabric as you can just to hold it.

Put the linings right sides together and sew down one long side, backstitching over the elastic when you come to it to reinforce.
Repeat with the pockets.
Take the small piece of lining.  This will be the flap.  Fold both in half lengthwise and cut diagonally at 45".
Sew one half of the velcro onto one of these pieces of lining.
Then put the two pieces right sides together and stitch round three sides, leaving the short side unstitched for turning.
Turn and top stitch close to the edge.
Stitch the other piece of velcro onto one of the pocket pieces.
Pin the tab between the lining and pockets, checking the positioning to make sure the velcro pieces match up.  Then stitch round the two pieces of fabric, leaving the bottom edge of one pocket unstitched, for turning and to insert the cardboard.

Turn the case the right way in.
Carefully insert the cardboard into each half of the case.  Stitch a vertical line down the middle, and top stich round the edge of the case, as close to the edge as you can.
There you are.  One Kindle case, with useful pockets for your cables!
(See what I mean about the elastic?  Ah well, I'll get it right next time!)
